7.1 Our geometric art heritage
In this unit we study geometric patterns, such as the decorations
on the walls of the homes of the Ndebele people in Mpumalanga.
The Ndebele like to
decorate the outside
of their homes with
colourful designs.
The Ndebele also make
and wear beautiful
bead necklaces and
bracelets.
They love geometric patterns! Do you?
A geometric pattern is a
repeated decorative design.
In this unit we will not focus on the types of figures (such as
triangles, rectangles, and so on) but on the number of figures or
beads in such repeating patterns.
