6.2 Measuring time

Many years ago water clocks were used to keep track of short
periods of time. These clocks measured time based on how much
water flowed from one container into the next. You are going to
                  make a simple water clock.

                  1. Form groups of 4 to 6 learners. Each group will need the
following: a plastic 2-litre bottle, a sharp knife or scissors, a tool
with a sharp narrow point, a bottle or jug of water and a permanent
                      marker.

                   Step 1 Step 2

Cut the body of the bottle in half. Puncture the bottle top. The hole
should not be smaller than this
                                                       circle:
                   Step 3 Step 4

Screw the bottle top back on. Slip Pour water into the top half. As
the top part of the bottle into the soon as the water starts to flow into
bottom part. the bottom half, one of the group
members must start to count from
                                                       1 to 240.
